So I picked the acts for last night. I chose the set order and even cooked up a little something special for my favorite part of the night – The Rare Elvis Song Challenge. My favorite Elvis songs are the more obscure tunes that you don’t hear often on the radio or even being performed by the tribute artists. My favorite moments at the Elvis festivals are Shawn Klush’s rendition of Long Black Limousine at the 2013 Poconos Festival, Dwight Icenhower’s rendition of the same song at the 2014 Ocean City festival and Dean Z’s rendition of Gentle on My Mind at the 2015 Ocean City festival. So I “challenged” four of our performers last night to sing one of each of my favorite songs. Jesse Aron – We Can Make The Morning, Chris Solano – I’ve Got a Thing About You Baby, Jeffrey Krick – Let Me Be There and Ryan Pelton – Pieces of My Life. I had to sneak up front to watch this set and all of the performers were spectacular. Like I said, I knew what was coming, or I thought I did. So Ryan Pelton, The COH band and especially guest guitarist Dave Hirschman pulled a HUGE surprise on me. We had this song on the set list and I saw a video of Ryan’s performance down in Georgia where the guitarist and he sat out in front and sang a slow acoustically played version of the song. I LOVED it and asked the band if this was possible to do this for our show. They felt that since the guitarist wasn’t familiar with this song, that the band should play it and I completely understood. Then comes the show and song and I was VERY surprised when they pulled the chairs out in front and NAILED it! Very special thanks to Ryan, Change of Habit and Dave for doing this. Here is the video for you to enjoy.
